The Duke Blue Devils will try to stay undefeated as they host 23rd ranked Northwestern this weekend.
Duke is coming off a huge blowout win at home against North Carolina Central 55-0. Quarterback Thomas Sirk looked good going 15/22 for 315 yards and 3 touchdowns last game. Sirk also added 86 more yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown. Shaquille Powell was the leading running back with 16 carries for 71 yards. Wide Receiver Shaun Wilson was the leading receiver catching 3 passes for 102 yards and 1 touchdown. T.J. Rahming also added 3 catches for 76 yards. Kicker Ross Martin was perfect going 2/2 in field goals. Duke’s defense was dominant only allowing 186 yards. Duke will have their first tough test at home this weekend against North Western.
The Northwestern Wildcats beat Eastern Illinois last weekend 41-0. Northwestern’s quarterback Clayton Thorson was 11/16 for 152 yards and a touchdown. Running back Justin Jackson had 22 carries for 78 yards and 1 touchdown. Warren Long also added 12 carries for 72 yards a touchdown. Wide Receiver led the team in receiving with 2 catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. Matthew Harris had a huge game for the Wildcats on defense recording 2 interceptions. Northwestern will try to keep their momentum going as they go on the road to take on the Duke Blue Devils.
Northwestern is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games overall and on grass. The Wildcats are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games vs. an ACC opponent. Duke is 10-1 against the spread vs. a team with a winning record. The Blue Devils are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games in September.
This game will be a tough game to pick as they are two very different teams. Northwestern has a big win already against Stanford and this would be another big one for them. Duke hasnt faced a tough opponent yet so it will be intersting to see how they play. I'd stay away from this game but if i had to pick i'd take Duke straight up because they are home.
