The Line: East Carolina Pirates -17 -- Over/Under:
The East Carolina Pirates look to right the ship when the Tulane Green Wave visit in week 13 action.
The Tulane Green Wave had high hopes entering the season but have needed more scoring punch and more stopping power. They found neither in a 38-7 loss to visiting Memphis for their 5th loss in seven contests even though both teams gained around 350 yards. The difference was the Green Wave turned the ball over five times and paid for their mistakes. Dontrell Hilliard and Lazedrick Thompson ran for a combined 136 yards with Hilliard adding a 19 yard touchdown. The Tulane air attack didn't have a strong game with Tanner Lee completing 26-48 for 196 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions including a pair of pick sixes.
The East Carolina Pirates looked like one of the best teams in the country early in the season as they climbed in to the top 25. However even when they were ranked the play on the field wasn't impressive and certainly hasn't been good after a 54-46 loss at Cincinnati saddled the Pirates with back to back defeats. The Bearcats won the yardage battle 586-572 with ECU winning the turnover battle 4-2. The Pirates ran well behind Breon Allen with his 129 yards on 12 carries including a 40 yards scoring gallop. The passing of Shane Carden carried East Carolina as he connected on 36-61 for 418 yards with Justin Hardy catching 15 balls fo 181 yards and a TD with Cam Worthy making five receptions for 101 yards and a score.
The under is 6-1-1 in Green Wave last 8 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game and is 5-1 in Green Wave last 6 games overall while the under is 5-1 in Green Wave last 6 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points. For East Carolina the Pirates are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games on grass while the Pirates are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game. Head to headthe home team is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings while the Green Wave are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings while the under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. East Carolina has not impressed me but if they are to get back on track my gut says it's here...
