The Line: East Carolina Pirates -10.5 -- Over/Under:
Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium and the East Carolina Pirates host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in week seven action.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane have been leaning hard on their defense this season but ultimately will need the defensive side of the football to get stops. The Golden Hurricane did get some defensive help in a 34-24 win versus Louisiana-Monroe in week six to improve to 3-2. Tulsa racked up 563 yards while the Warhawks totaled 404 yards but lost a fumble and threw a pair of interceptions. D’Angelo Brewer gave the Golden Hurricane some punch on the ground with 91 yards on 16 touches with Ramadi Warren adding 58 yards on eight totes. However the passing of Dane Evans carried Tulsa with 341 yards and two touchdowns with Joshua Atkinson catching nine balls for 110 yards.
The East Carolina Pirates look like a team nobody wants to play and Brigham Young will agree with that after squeezing out a 45-38 victory. A 17 point 4th quarter rally fell short with the Cougars scoring with 19 seconds remaining to win it. The numbers were fairly even with both teams combining for over 1,000 yards of offense with BYU winning the turnover battle 3-2. ECU didn’t run much even though they weren’t bad at it with Chris Hairston and James Summers combining for 132 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown each. That was because Blake Kemp was explosive in the air as he hit on 28-38 throws for two scores and an interception with Isaiah Jones, Bryce Williams and Trevon Brown giving the Pirates 21 receptions for 261 yards.
The Golden Hurricane are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game while the under is 4-1 in Golden Hurricane last 5 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. The over is 4-0 in Pirates last 4 conference games and is 5-0 in Pirates last 5 games overall while going 4-0 in Pirates last 4 vs. a team with a winning record. The over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and the underdog is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings while the Golden Hurricane are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings. No doubt East Carolina is the better team but there are too many points for me to ignore…
