The Line: Florida Gators -7 -- Over/Under: 57.5
The Florida Gators and the East Carolina Pirates visit Legion Field for the Birmingham Bowl on Saturday.
The East Carolina Pirates were phenominal in the early stages of 2014 and then spent the rest of the year trying to match that success. The Pirates defense generally held their own with 370 yards and 26+ points allowed. The offense totaled 543 yards and 37 points with a the third ranked passing attack churning out over 367 yards. QB Shane Carden was a talent with over 4,300 passing yards with 27 scores and eight picks with Justin Hardy grabbing 110 balls for 1,334 yards with Cam Worthy and Isaish Jones posting 886 yards and 766 yards. East Carolina was an effective running team when they chose to with Breon Allen and Chris Hairston totaling 869 yards and 455 yards and averaging 6.5 and 7.3 yards which are very explosive numbers.
The Florida Gators were the envy of the college football world several years ago but not so much lately. The Gators have become a defense first squad and some would say a defense only team. The numbers tell the story as UF allowed just 308 yards a 21 points and gave up more then 30 points once. The O posted 370 yards and 30+ points behind a top 45 rushing attack that approaches 190 yards. Treon Harris and Jeff Driskel combined for almost 2,000 yards through the air but neither was much more then 50% passers. Denarcus Robinson was the top pass catcher with 774 yards while Quinton Dunbar added 347 yards. Matt Jones was the top option on the ground with 817 yards with Kelvin Taylor next in line with 565 yards.
The Pirates are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while the over is 4-0 in Pirates last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. For Florida the over is 4-0 in Gators last 4 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and is 4-0 in Gators last 4 games on fieldturf and 4-0 in Gators last 4 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. I'm not a fan of either team as Florida is tough on the eyes and East Carolina has not fulfilled their potential. I'm taking the Gators but no interest for me...
