The William & Mary Tribe and East Carolina Pirates meet Saturday in college football action at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
The William & Mary Tribe look for a statement victory to build on their 2-1 record. The William & Mary Tribe have lost five of their last six road games. Hollis Mathis is completing 47.2 percent of his passes for 255 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Mathis has to take better care of the ball for the Tribe to have a chance here. Zach Burdick and Kane Everson have combined for 262 receiving yards on 10 catches while Jordan Lowery has three receptions. The William & Mary Tribe ground game is averaging 190.7 yards per contest, and Mathis leads the way with 199 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, William & Mary is allowing 26.3 points and 364.7 yards per game. Trey Watkins leads the William & Mary Tribe with 22 tackles, Bill Murray has 2.5 sacks and Corey Parker has one interception.
The East Carolina Pirates look for their second home win to get back to a .500 record. The East Carolina Pirates have split their last eight home games. Holton Ahlers is completing 56 percent of his passes for 501 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Ahlers has two or more touchdown passes in three of his last six games. Blake Proehl and Deondre Farrier have combined for 219 receiving yards and one touchdown while Tyler Snead has five receptions. The East Carolina Pirates ground game is averaging 163.3 yards per contest, and Darius Pinnix, Jr. leads the way with 157 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, East Carolina is allowing 28.3 points and 386.3 yards per game. Xavier Smith leads the East Carolina Pirates with 23 tackles, Alex Turner has three sacks and Gerard Stringer has one interception.
The William & Mary Tribe has gotten rocked over the years when stepping up in competition, and they don't have the quarterback play it takes to hang around with FBS teams on the road. The East Carolina Pirates need to take advantage of this game if they're going to make anything of this season, as the rest of their schedule isn't a cakewalk. The talent is there to run away things and as long as ECU takes care of the football, this should be a comfortable victory. I'll take the Pirates by two touchdowns.
