The Line: Eastern Michigan Eagles PK -- Over/Under: 47.5
The Eastern Michigan Eagles and the Georgia Southern Eagles meet in the Camellia Bowl from the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama as bowl season begins.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles come into the bowl game with a record of 7-5, including 5-3 in MAC conference play, with a win over Purdue and finishing the year with a 3-game winning streak to finish 2nd in the MAC West division behind eventual conference champion Northern Illinois. Tyler Wiegers has thrown for 1,887 yards, 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions while Shaq Vann leads the Eagles with 590 rushing yards with 5 touchdowns while Mike Glass III has 376 yards and 6 TDs and Ian Eriksen has 337 yards and 4 TDs on the ground this season. Blake Banham leads EMU in receiving with 54 grabs for 714 yards and 5 touchdowns while Arthur Jackson III has 43 catches for 506 yards and 3 scores. As a team, Eastern Michigan is averaging 378.8 yards of total offense and 27.5 points per game this season.
The Georgia Southern Eagles come into the bowl game with a 9-3 overall record, including a 6-2 mark in conference play to finish in a tie for 2nd in the Sun Belt East division. Shai Werts has thrown for 954 yards and 10 touchdowns while also rushing for 822 yards and 13 scores this season. Wesley Fields leads the Eagles with 959 yards and 9 touchdowns while Monteo Garrett has added 478 yards and 5 TDs this season. Fields also leads the Eagles in receiving with 237 yards while Wesley Kennedy III has a team-high 15 catches for 182 yards this season. As a team, Georgia Southern is averaging 344.3 yards of total offense, including the 9th-most rushing yards per game in the country with 261.5 per contest, to go along with 31.1 points per game this season.
Eastern Michigan is 14-3 ATS in their last 17 non-conference games and 24-11 ATS in their last 35 games overall while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games on turf. Georgia Southern is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games on turf.
Eastern Michigan has been a monster ATS out of conference dating back to last season, and with this line being a pick ‘em, a win sounds simple enough. However, Georgia Southern’s option offense did a ton of damage this season, finishing top-10 in the FBS in rushing yardage per game while the Eagles allowed almost 200 yards per game on the ground this season. I think this is a perfect storm for Georgia Southern to wreak havoc on the ground one more time, so I’m going to side with the Georgia Southern Eagles to pick up the win in this one.
