The UC Davis Aggies and Eastern Washington Eagles meet Saturday in the college football FCS quarterfinals at Roos Field.
The UC Davis Aggies have won eight of their last nine games and are coming off a win over Northern Iowa. The UC Davis Aggies have won four of their last six road games. Jake Maier is completing 65.1 percent of his passes for 3,697 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Maier has three or more touchdown passes in seven of his last nine games. Keelan Doss and Jared Harrell have combined for 2,031 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns while Ulonzo Gilliam has 50 receptions. The UC Davis Aggies ground game is averaging 164 yards per contest, and Gilliam leads the way with 844 yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively, UC Davis is allowing 26.8 points and 427.7 yards per game. Mason Moe leads the UC Davis Aggies with 73 tackles, Anthony Baumgart has 3.5 sacks and Devon King has two interceptions.
The Eastern Washington Eagles are riding a five-game winning streak and are coming off a win over Nicholls State. The Eastern Washington Eagles have won all six home games this season. Eric Barriere is completing 58.4 percent of his passes for 1,665 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. Barriere has two or more touchdown passes in three of his last five games. Nsimba Webster and Andrew Boston have combined for 1,511 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while Terence Grady has 14 receptions. The Eastern Washington Eagles ground game is averaging 271 yards per contest, and Sam McPherson leads the way with 1,145 yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively, Eastern Washington is allowing 21.1 points and 370.9 yards per game. Ketner Kupp leads the Eastern Washington Eagles with 81 tackles, Jay-Tee Tiuli has four sacks and D'londo Tucker has four interceptions.
The UC Davis Aggies have a chance in this contest given their quarterback play, but their defense has been shaky at best on the road this season. The Eastern Washington Eagles are starting to peak at the right time and all five of their victories during this five-game winning streak have been blowouts. In fact, Eastern Washington has made light work in damn near all of their wins this season and can really light up the scoreboard quickly when that running game gets going. I don't see a reason to step in front of the Eagles right now.
