The Line: Florida Atlantic Owls -3 -- Over/Under:
The UTEP Miners and FAU Owls square off Saturday afternoon in a C-USA college football game at FAU Football Stadium.
The UTEP Miners look for their second road victory of the season to win at least four games three straight years. The UTEP Miners have to win out in order to become bowl eligible. Ryan Metz is completing 65.6 percent of his passes for 917 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Metz has seven touchdown passes in his last three games. Cole Freytag and Hayden Plinke have combined for 564 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns while Eddie Sinegal has 24 receptions. The UTEP Miners ground game is averaging 171.3 yards per contest, and Aaron Jones leads the way with 1,168 yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively, UTEP is allowing 35.1 points and 418.9 yards per game. Dante Lovilette leads the UTEP Miners with 68 tackles, Nick Usher has 4.5 sacks and Dashone Smith has two interceptions.
The FAU Owls hope for back-to-back wins for the first time this season. The FAU Owls have five home victories since the 2014 season. Jason Driskel is completing 57.9 percent of his passes for 1,672 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions. Driskel has one or less touchdown passes in seven of his last eight games. Kalib Woods and Henry Bussey III have combined for 878 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Tavaris Harrison has 11 receptions. The FAU Owls ground game is averaging 174.6 yards per contest, and Gregory Howell, Jr. leads the way with 717 yards and 10 touchdowns. Defensively, FAU is allowing 36.3 points and 492.3 yards per game. Jalen Young leads the FAU Owls with 87 tackles, Trey Hendrickson has eight sacks and Andrew Soroh has two interceptions.
The Miners are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in November. The Owls are 1-11 ATS in their last 12 home games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The under is 10-4 in Owls last 14 conference games and the under is 11-4 in Miners last 15 games overall.
FAU has some confidence going after beating Rice on the road last week and now has a chance to win back-to-back games in one season for the first time since 2013. UTEP isn't a worldbeater and has scored 14 or less points in four of its last eight games. In a matchup between two lousy football teams, I'm siding with FAU and the small line.
