The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions and Florida Intl Golden Panthers meet Saturday in college football action at FIU Stadium.
The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions would love nothing more than a feel good victory here to rebound from a rough 1-3 start to the season. The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions have lost five of their last six road games. Shannon Patrick is completing 75 percent of his passes for 678 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions. Patrick and Skyler Perry have combined for more than 900 passing yards this season. Josh Wilkes and DeJuan Miller have combined for 702 receiving yards and five touchdowns while Kolby McNeal has eight receptions. The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions ground game is averaging 166 yards per contest, and Taeyler Porter leads the way with 334 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Arkansas-Pine Bluff is allowing 46.5 points and 633.3 yards per game. Shawn Steele leads the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions with 31 tackles, Kevin Agee has four sacks and Corey Bell has two pass defections.
The Florida Intl Golden Panthers look to avoid back-to-back losses while getting a game above a .500 record. The Florida Intl Golden Panthers have won six of their last eight home games. James Morgan is completing 59.6 percent of his passes for 716 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Morgan has two or more touchdown passes in five of his last eight games. CJ Worton and Sterling Palmer have combined for 389 receiving yards and four touchdowns while Maurice Alexander has six receptions. The Florida Intl Golden Panthers ground game is averaging 176.2 yards per contest, and Shawndarrius Phillips leads the way with 250 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, FIU is allowing 28.3 points and 443 yards per game. Sage Lewis leads the Florida Intl Golden Panthers with 45 tackles, Teair Tart has two sacks and Rocky Jacques-Louis has one interception.
The Golden Lions are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Golden Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in September and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
The Florida Intl Golden Panthers have drastically improved from past years, as the coaching staff is more consistent and they're winning games they struggled to win in the past. The problem is that doesn't mean FIU is to the point to be laying massive spreads like this, even if it's Arkansas-Pine Bluff. FIU did nothing for three quarters last week against Miami, and while these teams are in different weight classes, I don't think asking for a couple of first downs was too much. I'll take the points here, as the Golden Panthers are a team still learning how to beat up teams and win in blowout fashion.
