The Charlotte 49ers go o the road to take the field with the Florida Atlantic Owls Saturday.
The Charlotte 49ers have been struggling on both sides of the ball and the result is a 1-4 record after a 52-17 defeat to visiting Old Dominion in week five. The 49ers were outgained 481-354 which made their three turnovers stand out more then the Monarchs two giveaways. Charlotte tried to establish the run to keep the ODU offense off the field but their 49 rushes equated to just over 3 ½ yards per touch with a ten carry, 61 yard effort being easily the best effort. Charlotte quarterback Kevin Olsen was unable to move the chains consistently on 14-31 for 145 yards and a touchdown and interception. Kalif Phillips was a bright spot for the 49ers with a pair of catches for 92 yards including a 63 yard touchdown reception.
The Florida Atlantic Owls have been in a tailspin with four consecutive defeats which already put their season in jeopardy. A 33-31 defeat at Florida International was doubly painful as it was not only a loss but came at the hands of one of their biggest rivals. FAU lost the battle of yards 469-328 but were completely one dimensional with virtually no passing to depend on. The Owls were very good on the ground led by Greg Howell with 101 yards on 12 touches and a touchdown followed by Devin Singletary with 86 yards on 17 totes with another trip to the endzone. Florida Atlantic quarterback Jason Driskel completed 9-20 for 92 yards with a nine yards scoring strike to Marcus Clark but a bit more from the passing game probably would have made FAU a winner.
Charlotte are 0-4-2 ATS in their last 6 conference games and Charlotte are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-0 in Charlotte’s last 4 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points. The under is 5-0 in Florida Atlantic’s last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and the over is 4-0 in Florida Atlantic’s last 4 games following a straight up loss while Florida Atlantic are 0-8 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
I’m going with Florida Atlantic because they seem to have advantages on both sides of the ball but laying this many points with the Owls probably won’t happen by me…
