The Line: Florida Atlantic Owls -4.5 -- Over/Under:
The Old Dominion Monarchs close out the season with a road trip to the Florida Atlantic Owls.
The Old Dominion Monarchs look to become Bowl eligible with a win over Florida Atlantic in week 14. The Monarchs have won back to back contests to improve to 5-6 after a 30-27, overtime decision versus CUSA West leader Louisiana Tech. The ODU defense played their best game of the season by limiting the Bulldogs to 326 yards with a fumble recovery and a pick. The Monarchs offense put up almost 400 yards with Cam Boyd doing the only real damage on the ground with 50 yards on eleven touches. Star quarterback Taylor Heinicke connected on 29-38 for 302 yards with a pair of scoring strikes to David Washington and two picks while Jordan Glover went 0-2 with ot throws getting picked.
The Florida Atlantic Owls look improved to me but it doesn't show up in their record and a four game slide has taken away all postseason hopes. A 35-34 defeat at Middle Tennessee State was in the bag until the Blue Raiders scored the winning touchdown with 19 seconds left in regulation. MTSU ran for 310 yards on the way to 470 yards while a balanced Owls attack totaled an impressive 540 yards. Jaquez Johnson completed 21-33 for 304 yards with five yard and 23 yard scoring tosses to Alex Deleon and Kalib Woods although a pair of interceptions ruined what was a very strong perfomance. Johnson also ran for 53 yards and a score with Lucky Whitehead posting 86 yards with 80 coming on a TD run while Jay Warren totaled 95 yards on 26 carries. The Owls had the better numbers but the Blue Raiders made the plays at the end.
The Monarchs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game while the over is 7-0 in Monarchs last 7 road games with the Monarchs going 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. For Florida Atlantic the over is 4-0 in Owls last 4 games on grass and is 4-0 in Owls last 4 home games while the over is 4-0 in Owls last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The Monarchs could go to a Bowl with a win to finish 6-6 and that's incentive for me to take the points and wait for more...
