The Line: Florida Atlantic Owls -- Over/Under:
The Florida Atlantic Owls play host to the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers in a battle of Bowl hopeful squads.
The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers go on the road to tangle with Florida Atlantic Owls in conference action Saturday. The Blazers are hoping to bounce back from a 45-17 loss at Arkansas where neither side of the ball stood out. UAB trailed 35-0 at the break and were never competitive as a 25 point road underdog. The Razorbacks held a 484-195 with the Blazers totaling 12 first downs and going 4-14 on third down conversions. Jordan Howard was the most productive offensive player with 90 rushing yards on 19 carries so UAB tried to get things going through the air with less success. Quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe connected on 6-18 for 62 yards with a 33 yard touchdown to Nyiakki Height and an interception. Jamarcus Nelson scored on a 100 yard kick return but that was the highlight of the Blazers night.
The Florida Atlantic Owls are looking to get back in the win column against visiting Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday. The Owls might have played the best first half of 2014 where they led unbeaten Marshall 16-14 before falling to a 21-0 second half run to lose 35-16 in week nine. At the final gun the Thundering Herd stayed undefeated with 546 yards with plenty of balance while their defense held FAU to 388 yards which wasn't going to keep this competitive. The Owls strategy was to run the ball and burn clock and even though they rushed for 209 yards the average was under four yards. Greg Howell paced the ground game with 92 yards on 22 carries with quarterback Jaquez Johnson adding 61 yards on 16 touches while completing 19-37 for 179 yards with a 16 yard touchdown to Alex Deleon.
The over is 6-0 in Blazers last 6 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game and is 5-0 in Blazers last 5 games following a ATS loss while going 9-0 in Blazers last 9 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game. For Florida Atlantic the Owls are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games on grass. The Owls are 11-0 ATS in their last 11 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and are 14-2 ATS in their last 16 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. Head to head the over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings with the Blazers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings. No line out on what looks like an interesting match up but probably not a good betting opportunity so please check back...
