The Line: Florida Gators -3.5 -- Over/Under:
The Florida Gators and the Missouri Tigers face off on Saturday in the Swamp for a SEC college football matchup.
The Florida Gators looked as if they had pulled off the win against LSU on Saturday but they let it get away and ended up falling to the Tigers in the waning seconds. The Florida offense is averaging 31.8 points per game and 385 yards but there is a QB controversy brewing as Jeff Driskel has been ineffective for the most part this season and Treon Harris rallied the Gators for the win at Tennessee but was suspended for last week’s game. Matt Jones leads the UF ground attack averaging 5.0 yards per carry and Demarcus Robinson is the leading receiver with 30 catches and four touchdowns. The Florida defense allows 22.2 points and 357 yards per game with seven interceptions, eight fumble recoveries, and 16 sacks. Antonio Morrison leads the Gators with 46 tackles, Dante Fowler has 30 tackles, and Keanu Neal has four sacks. Florida looks like a shell of the teams they have had in the past.
The Missouri Tigers have been tough to figure out this season at times looking like a contender in the SEC and at others a lower rung also ran. Missouri is coming off being shut out at home by Georgia but for the season they are averaging 28.8 points and 357.8 yards of offense per game led by QB Maty Mauk who has completed just 54.4 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Russell Hansbrough is Mizzou’s leading ground gainer averaging 6.0 yards per carry with six touchdowns and Marcus Murphy is averaging 4.9 yards per carry while Bud Sasser is the leading receiver with 32 catches and four touchdowns. The Missouri defense allows 22.8 points per game and 380.7 yards with five interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and 20 sacks. Michael Scherer has 58 tackles, Kentrell Brothers has 51 tackles, and Shane Ray has eight sacks. Missouri still has just one conference loss so that keeps them in the mix if they can get a win here.
Florida is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, 4-11 against the spread following a loss, and 1-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Missouri is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight road games, 9-3 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 11-4 against the spread against the SEC.
Florida’s offense has been ineffective and with Harris and Driskel both supposed to play I don’t see enough to get the cover as I see this game as a coin flip so taking the points is the play.
