The Line: Florida State Seminoles -11 -- Over/Under:
The Northern Illinois Huskies will visit the Florida State Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday in college football action.
Northern Illinois comes in here at 1-2 on the young season, taking losses to Iowa 33-7 and Utah 17-6 in their first two games before banging out a 24-16 victory over Central Michigan this past Saturday.
In the CMI game, Northern Illinois QB Marcus Childers posted 109 yards and three touchdowns, with most of the work going to DJ Brown who caught four balls for 69 yards and a score. Tre Harbison led the rush for the Huskies on 124 yards from 13 totes.
Over on the Florida State side, they are currently 1-2 as well this season, with a 36-26 win over Samford sandwiched between losses 24-3 to Virginia Tech and 30-7 to Syracuse.
In the Orange game, Florida State’s Deondre Francois posted 178 yards and a pick, while Cam Akers was the top rusher on 52 yards from 10 carries. Keith Gavin led the Seminoles in receiving on 79 yards and six carries.
The Huskies are 5-2 ATS in their last seven non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven in September. NIU is 7-3-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.
Meanwhile, Florida State is 6-0 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games. The Seminoles are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and 4-10-2 ATS in their last 16 overall.
Neither one of these teams has exactly dazzled so far this year, and that’s a heavier indictment of a larger school like Florida State as opposed to NIU. Florida State just can't score against quality teams so far, and that’s going to be a major problem moving forward. I expect the Seminoles to bounce back and win here, but there’s enough room on the line to make me think the Huskies can get in there and cover.
