The Line: Florida Gators +1 -- Over/Under:
The Florida Gators and the LSU Tigers face off on Saturday in Gainesville in a SEC college football battle.
The Florida Gators are coming off of a monster win where they came back and grabbed a win at Tennessee but by Monday morning the good news had gone South as they will be without the star of the comeback win, QB Treon Harris. The Florida offense is averaging 33 points per game but for the most part they have struggled until harris led them after coming in late in Knoxville. Unfortunately for the Gators Harris has been suspended from the team for his role in a possible sexual assault case so it is back to Jeff Driskel who has completed just 54.7 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and six interceptions. Matt Jones leads the Florida ground attack with a 5.2 yards per carry average while Demarcus Robinson leads in receptions with 25 including three touchdowns. The Florida defense has been very good allowing just 20.2 points per game including last week when they allowed nine making Tennessee settle for field goals. Antonio Morrison leads the Gators defense with 32 tackles, Michael Taylor has 13 tackles, and Brian Poole has 20 tackles. Florida can only hope Driskel can play better in this one.
This is starting to look more and more like a rebuilding year for the LSU Tigers as they are coming off of a beat down at he Hands of Auburn. The loss at Auburn was the second SEC conference loss of the young season for LSU as years of players leaving early appear to be taking their toll. The LSU offense is averaging 35.7 points per game but the QB issues are obvious as Brandon Harris was just 3 of 14 passing last week and Anthony Jennings has completed just 50.5 percent of his passes with five touchdowns. Leonard Fournette has been impressive rushing the football but with the non-existent passing game the pressure is on him and Kenny Hilliard to get it done. Travin Dural leads LSU with 22 receptions Trey Quinn has 11 but LSU’s passing game just hasn’t been good. Defensively LSU is allowing 17.7 points per game but they were hung out to dray last week at Auburn. For the season LSU has six interceptions, seven fumble recoveries, and 11 sacks. Danielle Hunter leads the Tiger defense with 37 tackles, Kwon Alexander has 36 tackles, and Ronald Martin has 33 tackles. This is a big game for LSU as lower rung bowl games hasn’t been what this team is about.
Florida is 7-15 against the spread in their last 22 games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games, and 104 against the spread against a team with a winning record. LSU is 4-1 against the spread following a loss, 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five road games, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six SEC games.
The Florida offense looked lost before Harris entered their game and I don’t expect a ton more here from them and while LSU is clearly down they are the better team here and should cover.
