The Line: Florida Gators -1.5 -- Over/Under: 53.5
The Florida Gators and the Tennessee Volunteers face off on Saturday at The Swamp in a SEC college football rivalry game.
The Florida Gators are off to a 3-0 start to the season after opening their SEC schedule last week with a win at Kentucky. The Gators offense has been effective averaging 35.3 points and 408 yards per game with a focus on the ground game and controlling the football. Florida has gone with both of their QB’s but at this point it looks more and more like Will Grier has the edge and he has completed 68.4 percent of his passes for four touchdowns with two interceptions. With Florida’s focus on the running game Kelvin Taylor is averaging 3.8 yards per carry and he has three touchdowns to lead UF rushers while Demarcus Robinson is the Gators leading receiver with 14 catches. The Florida defense has played well thus far allowing 15.3 points and 258 yards per game with 11 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and four interceptions. Jarrad Davis leads the Florida defense with 24 tackles, Antonio Morrison has 18 tackles, and Marcus Maye has 13 tackles. Tis is easily Florida’s toughest game of the season so far.
The Tennessee Volunteers still look like they have a promising season ahead of them but heir blown lead and loss to Oklahoma could haunt them for the entire season. Tennessee’s offense is averaging 46 points and 435 yards per game but it let them down in the clutch in their only big game thus far. QB Joshua Dobbs has completed 58.1 percent of his passes for five touchdowns and one interception and he has rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns. The Vols rushing attack is led by Jalen Hurd who has rushed for 300 yards and five touchdowns while Alvin Kamara has made the most of his carries averaging 7.5 yards per and Josh Malone is UT’s top receiver with nine catches. The Tennessee defense is allowing 23.7 points and 394.7 yards per game with five sacks, three fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. Jalen Reeves-Maybin leads the Tennessee defense with 33 tackles, Derek Barnett has 19 tackles, and Todd Kelly Jr. has 15 tackles. A win in this spot would go a long way towards a big season for Tennessee.
Florida is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games, 6-14 against the spread in their last 20 home games, and 3-7 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. Tennessee is 4-10 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 2-6 against the spread following a win, and 7-19-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the spread. The underdog is 3-1-1 against the spread in the last five meetings of these two.
This one should be about the defense and which offense can make a play so my play here is going to be under the total that is set at 53.5. My stronger pick is on the winning team agaisnt the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
