The Abilene Christian Wildcats and Fresno State Bulldogs meet Thursday at Bulldog Stadium.
The Abilene Christian Wildcats look to build on their 6-6 record last season that included three road wins. Parker McKenzie returns at quarterback after completing 64.7 percent of his passes for 3,084 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Cedric Gilbert and Cade Stone combined for more than 1,100 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns while Jace Hudson had 31 receptions and three touchdowns. De'Andre Brown leads the way at running back after racking up 993 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Defensively, Sam Denmark returns after picking up 77 tackles for the Wildcats, Lynn Grady had seven tackles for loss and LaMarcus Allen had three sacks.
The Fresno State Bulldogs look to take that next step after winning 17 games their last two seasons. Zack Greenlee takes over at quarterback after completing 43.9 percent of 41 pass attempts last season. Aaron Peck and Delvon Hardaway combined for close to 700 receiving yards and five touchdowns while Chad Olsen had 13 receptions as a freshman. Marteze Waller returns at running back after leading Fresno State with 1,368 yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively, Kyrie Wilson returns after racking up 90 tackles for the Bulldogs, Ejiro Ederaine had 12.5 tackles for loss and Charles Washington had two interceptions.
From a covering standpoint, Abilene Christian is a threat based on the amount of offensive talent that's returning. The Wildcats can move the football and have proven last season that they can win on the road. However, Fresno State is far more talented and has a lot of key defensive players back on the field.
I look for the Bulldogs to make a strong statement by winning this game and covering.
