The New Mexico State Aggies look to get their first win at the Georgia Southern Eagles.
The New Mexico State Aggies haven’t been as bad as their 0-5 record makes it appear but they did bite off more then they could chew in a 52-3 loss at Mississippi in week six action. Ole Miss simply had too much firepower as they opened up a 31-3 halftime lead and never looked back. The boxscore tells the story with the Rebels amassing 665 yards however they chose while the Aggies were held to 239 yards and turned the ball over twice. NMSU had no rushing attack to speak of with less then 100 yards and about a 2 ½ yard average. The Aggies turned to quarterback Andrew Allen who was 10-14 for 55 yards and two interceptions and backup Nick Jeanty went 12-23 for 86 yards so the chains weren’t moving.
After getting shutout in the season opener at West Virginia the Georgia Southern Eagles have been dominant with four consecutive victories following a 51-31 victory at Louisiana-Monroe. The Eagles defense was solid with the Warhawks totaling 279 yards and committing three turnovers while their own offense piled up 503 yards. Most of the Eagles success comes on the ground with quarterback Kevin Ellison going 3-9 for 48 yards and a pick six before redeeming himself with 74 rushing yards. Matt Breida was Georgia Southern’s big gun on the ground with 149 yards on 19 carries and a pair of touchdowns while LA Ramsby and Wesley Fields combined for 190 yards on 30 touches with each scoring twice.
The Aggies are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game and are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game while going 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in October and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game while going 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. I am going with Georgia Southern even though I think the Aggies could back door this…
