The Line: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets +3 -- Over/Under: TBA
The Clemson Tigers travel to Georgia Tech to play the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.
The Clemson Tigers improved to 7-2, 6-1 ACC after beating Wake Forest on the road 34-20 last week. The Tigers have won six straight games over North Carolina, NC State, Louisville, Boston College, Syracuse, and now Wake Forest. Against the Demon Deacons, Clemson allowed only 119 total yards with only 7 coming on the ground. On the year, the Tigers are allowing an average of 18.4 points per game, which ranks an impressive 12th in the country. The Tigers offense produced 427 total yards against Wake Forest last week, but they did turn the ball over twice. The Clemson offense is averaging 32.4 points per game this season, which ranks a solid 49th in the country. QB Cole Stoudt completed 27 of 42 passes for 282 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception last week. WR Artavis Scott caught 8 balls for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Wayne Gallman carried the ball 19 times for 106 yards and a score for the Tigers. Clemson will head out on the road for the fifth time this season; the Tigers are 2-2 away from home this year.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets improved to 8-2, 5-2 ACC on the season after beating North Carolina State 56-23 last weekend. The Yellow Jackets have won three straight against Pittsburgh, Virginia, and now NC State after dropping two in a row to Duke and North Carolina back in October. Against the Wolfpack, the Yellow Jackets allowed 368 total yards and forced 3 turnovers. D.J. White had a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown and Quayshawn Nealy had a 43-yard fumble return for a touchdown. On the year, Georgia Tech is allowing an average of 25.9 points per game, which ranks 63rd in the country this season. Georgia Tech gained an outstanding 549 total yards against NC State, with 479 coming on the ground. The Yellow Jackets offense is averaging a whopping 38.8 points per game, which ranks 13th in the country this season. QB Justin Thomas completed 5 of 6 passes for 47 yards and also rushed for a touchdown. RB Synjyn Days rushed 19 times for 157 yards and a touchdown, while RB Tim Byerly carried the ball 13 times for 87 yards and 2 scores. Georgia Tech will play their final home game of the season; the Yellow Jackets are 4-1 at home this season.
The Clemson Tigers have won three out of the last four meetings with Georgia Tech, including a 55-31 win at home last season. The only time the Tigers have been out gained on the ground this season was against Georgia and Clemson was beat by 24-points. Georgia Tech doesn’t have the same size up front as a Georgia, but they sure know how to run the ball affectively. Clemson will have to play discipline up front on defense to contain the Yellow Jackets rushing attack. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech will have to shut down the combination of Stoudt and Scott and try to limit any big plays. This should be a great game and I think the last team to possess the ball may win. I’m going to take the points with the home team here.
