The Line: Georgia Bulldogs -35.5 Over/Under 53.5
The Georgia Bulldogs and the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks face off on Saturday in Athens as they kick off their 2015 college football schedules.
The Georgia Bulldogs have high hopes this season as they have a solid group of returning players from last year’s team. One area where Georgia doesn’t have a returning starter is at QB but it appears that Brice Ramsey will start the season and he, in typical Bulldog fashion, has a cannon for an arm. The most excitement at Georgia seems to revolve around tailback Nick Chubb who could be a Heisman Trophy candidate but the sad truth is Georgia has had a very hard time keeping running backs healthy so look for Sonny Michel and Keith Marshall to see plenty of action. Malcolm Mitchell is the best of the receivers for UGA and they return four starters on the O-Line. The Georgia defense is led by Jordan Jenkins and Leonard Floyd who can bring the heat and freshman DT Trent Thompson was regarded as the top player in the nation coming in. Georgia has high expectations this year and as always the toughest part for Mark Richt’s team will be to live up to them.
The Louisiana Monroe Warhawks will face some big challenges this season but if they can play up to their potential they have the ability to surprise some people. Brayle Bown looks like he will be the starter for ULM at QB and he has a ton of experience but he gets injured often and Garrett Smith is a dual threat who could be called into action. Whomever is at QB for the Warhawks they get some nice targets in Rashon Ceasar and Ajalen Holley who were the best tandem in the Sun Belt last season. The running game was horrific last season hopes are that Kaylon Watson and DeVontae McNeal can pick up the pace. Louisiana Monroe’s defense is a solid unit that returns most of their top tacklers from last season including NT Gerrand Johnson, Michael Johnson who led the conference in sacks, and Hunter Kissinger who is another senior leader type guy on this unit. ULM has some issues on offense but their overall experience should benefit them greatly.
Georgia is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, and 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five September games. Louisiana Monroe is 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games, 4-0-1 against the spread in their last five games, and 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 non-conference games.
While Georgia is the better team and loaded with talent, I am going to take my chances with ULM who is loaded with seniors and who of course are getting five touchdowns.
