USA TODAY Sports

The option of the Georgia Southern Eagles faces the Bowling Green Falcons in the GoDaddy Bowl.

The Georgia Southern Eagles have surprised many bigger names in the past but I was a bit surprised the Eagles didn’t win the Sun Belt. The numbers agree with the nation’s top rushing attack (356 yards) leading to 35 points while the defense was stingy versus the run and pass with 23 points allowed on 337 yards. Quarterback Kevin Ellison seldom threw which was a good thing for the Eagles as his 532 yards on 44% says but he could run with 642 yards. Matt Breida was the Eagles big threat on the ground  (189-1540) with LA Ramsby adding 772 yards followed Wesley Fields with another 607 yards. Everybody ran the ball and did so effectively.

The Bowling Green Falcons were one of the more explosive teams in the game  and that is why they won the MAC title. If you were a fan offense this was a must watch team with over 560 yards with 376 yards coming by way of the #3 passing attack with the end result being 43 points per game which made an average defense that did not standout at 27 points allowed look good. The BGSU offense began with quarterback Matt Johnson with his 4,700 passing yards with 43 TD’s and just eight picks on nearly 69%. Roger Lewis (82-1475), Gehrig Dieter (89-957) and Ronnie Moore (67-858) gave the receiving corps explosive options. The Falcons ran the ball effectively when they chose with Travis Greene totaling over 1,200 yards with Fred Coppet adding almost 800 years.

The Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game and are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 non-conference games while the under is 5-1 in Eagles last 6 games overall. The over is 4-0 in Falcons last 4 Bowl games and  is 4-0 in Falcons last 4 bowl games while BGSU   are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. S-Belt. For now I’ll take the Eagles but check back…

Pick:
Georgia Southern -7.5 // Bowling Green dropped to -5.5 and could go lower but I prefer the Falcons under a TD

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
