The Line: Idaho Vandals +16 -- Over/Under:
The Appalachian State Mountaineers look to get back in the win column at the Kibbie Dome versus the Idaho Vandals.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers have been dominant on both sides of the ball as they won six straight and appeared to be the team to beat in the Sun Belt until the tables were reversed in a 40-27 defeat to visiting Arkansas State where they were outscored 23-6 in the second half. The offense mustered 465 yards but gave the ball away three times while ASU rolled up over 500 yards and returned a fumble for a TD. The passing of Taylor Lamb kept the Mountaineers competitive with 321 yards and four touchdowns and an interception on 22-35 with Shaedon Meadors and Malachi Jones combining for 153 yards on seven catches. Marcus Cox was the only ASU runner of note with 74 yards on 16 carries.
For the second consecutive week the Idaho Vandals squandered leads and suffered disappointing defeats. Week ten saw the Vandals blow a 24-7 lead at South Alabama on the way to a 52-45 defeat. The boxscore says Idaho’s 494-400 yardage edge should have been enough to win but a touchdowns on a fumble and kick return were too much to overcome. The passing of Matt Linehan kept the Vandals going with 317 yards and a pair of touchdowns and an interception on 26-29 with Deon Watson grabbing seven passes for 109 yards and a pair of TD’s. Elijhaa Penny was a productive workhorse for the Vandals on the ground with 135 yards on 35 touches and a pair of trips to the end zone.
The Mountaineers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and the over is 4-1 in Mountaineers last 5 games in November while the under is 4-1 in Mountaineers last 5 road games. The Vandals are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game while going 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss. Idaho has blown nice leads the past two weeks and as much as I liked Appalachian State I don’t think they are as good as I thought….
