The Line: Idaho Vandals -3.5 -- Over/Under:
The Idaho Vandals hope to give the Kibbie Dome crowd a good time when the Troy Trojans visit.
The Troy Trojans surprise me at times and not usually in a good way as they have generally struggled in 2014. I thought they would have trouble with Georgia State in week eleven but at the final gun it was a mismatch with the Panthers getting spanked 45-21. Troy led 21-7 at the half and were off to the races with 440 yards with most coming on the ground while GSU mustered 394 yards but lost a fumble and threw a pair of picks. Brandon Silvers was effective in an ultra short passing attack that saw him go 17-21 for 111 yards with a 31 yard scoring toss to Bryan Holmes. Silvers added a 31 yard touchdown run while Brandon Burks led the run with 118 yards and a score with Khary Franklin and Jordan Chunn combining for nearly 100 yards and a TD each.
The Idaho Vandals obviously haven't done much winning but for a team that loses a lot of games by double digits I still believe they have been loosely competitive. I would term their 35-21 loss at San Diego state in this way although at some point loosely competitive has to become an occasional victory. The yardage wasn't night and day with the Aztecs leading 405-379 but the Vandals couldn't contain the passing of Quinn Kaehler and couldn't force turnovers. The Vandals were okay at everything but lacked the big play and any kind of explosiveness with Chad Chalich completing 11-22 for 145 yards with a 51 yard scoring strike to Joshua McCain being their one big play. Elihah Penny ran for 90 yards and a short score with Chalich adding 67 yards and another touchdown.
The over is 5-0 in Trojans last 5 games following a SU win of more than 20 points and is 4-0 in Trojans last 4 games in November while the Trojans are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. For Idaho the over is 10-2 in Vandals last 12 games following a ATS win while the Vandals are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS win and the over is 4-1 in Vandals last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. Neither team is making me want to run to the window and bet but I'll give a slight edge to the home team who I think has a bit more going for them...
