The Line: Iowa Hawkeyes -21 -- Over/Under: 45
The Northern Iowa Panthers and Iowa Hawkeyes meet Saturday in college football action at Kinnick Stadium.
The Northern Iowa Panthers have had an extra week to prepare for this game after losing to Montana, 23-26. The Northern Iowa Panthers have lost five of their last eight road games. Colton Howell is completing 50 percent of his passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. Howell must be more of a difference maker in this game if the Panthers are going to pull off the upset. Briley Moore and Nick Fossey have combined for 104 receiving yards and one touchdown while Trevor Allen has one reception. The Northern Iowa Panthers ground game is averaging 104 yards per contest, and Allen leads the way with 50 yards on 17 carries. Defensively, Northern Iowa is allowing 26 points and 348 yards per game. Duncan Ferch leads the Northern Iowa Panthers with 12 tackles, Chris Kolarevic has 10 tackles and Bryce Douglas has one pass deflection.
The Iowa Hawkeyes look for another win to start the season 3-0 for the third time in the last four years. The Iowa Hawkeyes have won five of their last six home games. Nate Stanley is completing 52.9 percent of his passes for 274 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Stanley has one or less touchdown passes in seven of his last nine games. T.J. Hockenson and Ihmir Smith-Marsette have combined for 170 receiving yards on 14 receptions while Noah Fant has seven receptions. The Iowa Hawkeyes ground game is averaging 157 yards per contest, and Toren Young leads the way with 152 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Iowa is allowing five points and 199.5 yards per game. Jack Hockaday leads the Iowa Hawkeyes with 13 tackles, A.J. Epenesa has three sacks and Amani Hooker has one interception.
The under is 6-1 in Panthers last 7 non-conference games. The Hawkeyes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
The Northern Iowa Panthers have hung around with the Hawkeyes in past meetings, and while the rosters are different, you still have a bunch of kids who know each other, went to high school together, and they want to prove themselves. This is Northern Iowa's Super Bowl, a chance to knock off the big boy in-state. The Iowa Hawkeyes are obviously the clear better team, but Northern Iowa has a history of keeping games close and has rarely been blown out the last couple of years. You're going to get the best effort from the Panthers. I like the three free touchdowns.
