The Minnesota Golden Gophers welcome the Kent State Golden Flashes to the TCF Bank Stadium.
The Kent State Golden Flashes struggled in their season opener at Illinois but they had an easy go of it in a 45-13 rout of FCS Delaware State. This was over quick with the Golden Flashes up 36-6 at the half with 402 yards and 42 minutes of possession. This wasn’t picture perfect with Kent State fumbling seven times (three lost) but the Hornets couldn’t take advantage with next to nothing in yards and one first down. Colin Reardon gave Kent 142 passing yards and three touchdowns with Kris White snagging six balls for 83 yards. On the ground Trayion Durham and Nick Holley gave the Golden Flashes 145 yards on 24 carries with Durham finding the end zone.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers put up a good fight in a week one loss to Texas Christian but came back to even their record at 1-1 with a 23-20 overtime win at Colorado State. Minnesota had advantages in the boxscore with a 413-314 edge in yards and even though a pair of fumbles were lost the Rams also lost two fumbles and threw two picks. Quarterback Mitch Leidner wasn’t extremely sharp but he did throw for 233 yards on 23-45 with scoring tosses of 22 yards to KJ Maye and 38 yards to Drew Wolitarsky so the Golden Gophers were a threat to worry about in the air. Leidner also ran for 47 yards but Rodney Smith gave the Minnesota ground game some punch with 108 yards on 21 carries.
The over is 5-0 in Golden Flashes last 5 non-conference games andis 4-0 in Golden Flashes last 4 games in September while the under is 4-0-1 in Golden Flashes last 5 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. The under is 7-1 in Golden Gophers last 8 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and the over is 6-1 in Golden Gophers last 7 vs. MAC while the Golden Gophers are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. I look at this game and my thought is Minnesota is too physical and should get the job done…
