The Eastern Michigan Eagles and the Kentucky Wildcats meet in a week 2 college football matchup from Kroger Field on Saturday night.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles will look to build on a season-opening 30-23 win over Coastal Carolina last time out. Defensively, Eastern Michigan combined for 4 interceptions while Turan Rush had a sack and Terry Myrick had a team-high 5 tackles in the win.
The Kentucky Wildcats will also look to add to a strong start to the season, defeating Toledo by a final score of 38-24 in their season opener last time out. Eastern Michigan is 17-4 ATS in their last 21 non-conference games and 26-11 ATS in their last 37 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the SEC. Kentucky is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against the MAC and 9-23 ATS in their last 32 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall.
Eastern Michigan has been one of the nation’s more underrated teams ATS when it comes to playing out of conference, so the two free touchdowns are tempting. However, Kentucky just put up 38 points on Toledo, who aren’t the most gifted team defensively, but have been one of the best that the MAC has had to offer in recent years. This is also a Toledo that that’s beaten Eastern Michigan is 17 of the 19 meetings since 2000, and a lot of those were double-digit victories. I just don’t think that Eastern Michigan has the ability to go score for score with Kentucky if it becomes a shootout, and I think that Kentucky is also the better team on the defensive side of the ball, so I’ll lay the points with the Wildcats in this one.
