The Line: Kentucky Wildcats +13.5 -- Over/Under:
The Kentucky Wildcats and the Mississippi State Bulldogs face off on Saturday in Lexington at Commonwealth Stadium for a SEC college football matchup.
The Kentucky Wildcats are greatly improved this season and they looked ready to take on the better teams but they ran into a buzz saw last week and were blown out at LSU. Kentucky will need to put last week behind them fast as their offense is averaging 31.7 points and 415.4 yards per game and are led by QB Patrick Towles who has completed 61 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Jojo Kemp leads the UK ground game with 300 yards and four touchdowns and Braylon Heard averages 7.0 yards per carry with three TD’s and Ryan Timmons leads the receivers with 31 catches. Defensively Kentucky is allowing 21.9 points and 354.9 yards wih 12 interceptions, 18 sacks, and five fumble recoveries. Josh Forrest has 56 tackles, Khalid Henderson has 39 tackles, and Alvin Dupree has three sacks. Kentucky will need to play flawless football to have any chance in this one.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs enter this game as the number one ranked team in the nation and while I don’t agree with that ranking, they are unbeaten so far. MSU is averaging 41.8 points per game and 529.7 yards and are led by Heisman Trophy candidate Dak Prescott who has completed 61.5 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions and he has rushed for 576 yards and eight touchdowns. Josh Robinson is Mississippi State’s leading rusher averaging 7.0 yards per carry with eight touchdowns and De’Runnya Wilson has 18 receptions and six touchdowns as Jameon Lewis has been slowed with injuries. The Mississippi State defense allows 20 points per game and 428.8 yards with 11 interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and 21 sacks. Bernardrick McKinney has 41 tackles and three sacks, Beniquez Brown has 30 tackles, and Preston Smith has 4.5 sacks. Mississippi State has a tough road ahead with Alabama and Ole Miss still on the schedule.
Kentucky is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, and 5-15 against the spread in their last 20 SEC games. Mississippi State is 7-0 against the spread in their last seven SEC games, 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 games, and 4-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Mississippi State is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings of these two.
I took the bait with Kentucky last week and I will take it with them at home here as I see MSU being over rated.
