CFB | South Carolina Gamecocks (3-2) at Kentucky Wildcats (3-1)

The Kentucky Wildcats and the South Carolina Gamecocks face off on Saturday in Lexington at Commonwealth Stadium for a SEC college football matchup.

The Kentucky Wildcats are off to a 3-1 start and after a few rough years they are three wins away from being bowl eligible. UK’s lone loss came in overtime at Florida in a game they had every chance to win. The Wildcats offense is averaging 31.5 points per game led by QB Patrick Towles who has completed 62.2 percent of his passes with 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions and he has rushed for 114 yards and t2 touchdowns. Bryalon Heard leads Kentucky in rushing averaging 7.5 yards per carry with 2 touchdowns and Jojo Kemp averages 4.7 yards per carry. Ryan Timmons leads Kentucky in receiving with 20 receptions and Gareet Johnson and Dorian Baker have 11 catches each. The UK defense has been strong allowing 15 points per game with 6 interception, 4 fumble recoveries, and 11 sacks. Josh Forrest has 26 tackles, Khalid Henderson has 24 tackles, and Za’Darius Smith has 23 tackles. Kentucky failed their first stiff test at Florida and they face what could be a stiffer one in this game.

The South Carolina Gamecocks took their second loss of the season on Saturday and that should eliminate them from any consideration for the four team playoff this season. South Carolina took a loss in their opener to Texas A&M and had rebounded nicely with wins but they allowed Missouri to beat them late for their second home loss of the season. QB Dylan Thompson has completed 60.9 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Mike Davis leads the Gamecocks ground attack with a 4.5 yards per carry average and Brandon Wilds averages 5.2 yards per carry. Pharoh Cooper leads SC in receptions with 24 including 3 touchdowns, Nick Jones has 22 catches and 3 touchdowns, and Shaq Roland has 15 catches. The South Carolina defense is allowing 33 points per game and has 3 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, and 6 sacks and these numbers simply aren’t good enough to contend in the SEC. Skai Morre is the leading tackler with 32 tackles, T.J. Gurley has 29 tackles, and Rico McWilliams has 17 tackles. It will be interesting to see if the Gamecocks come out fired up after their loss or just deflated.

Kentucky is 1-5 against the spread in their last six SEC games, 2-7 against the spread following a win, and 3-8 against the spread after allowing 20 points or less in their previous game. South Carolina is 6-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. South Carolina has covered the point spread in five of their last seven games with Kentucky.

South Carolina is deflated while Kentucky is hungry and on the rise and while South Carolina has a huge edge in coaching I am on UK here.
