|Date & Time||Saturday December 19, 2015, 3:30 PM (EST)|
The Line: Utah Utes -3 -- Over/Under: 54
The Utah Utes and Brigham Young Cougars take the field in the Las Vegas Bowl.
The Brigham Young Cougars have their sight set on a ten win season which is impressive considering Taysom Hill has been out. The Cougars have the ability to score, defend or both and possess a top 50 run and pass ‘D’. On offense BYU rides their #21 passing attack that averages around 295 yards. Tanner Magum has been a solid passer with Hill out with over 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns with seven picks on 62% with Mitch Matthews the top receiver with 52 receptions for 729 yards and eleven touchdowns. The rushing attack was led by Algernon Brown with almost 700 yards and eleven TD’s.
The Utah Utes had planned on being in the National Championship playoffs before dropping two of three to end the regular season. The Utes were a defense first type team that allowed 22 points and were 6th against the run with just 112 yards given up. The offense mustered 377 yards with a top 45 run game leading the way with 188 yards. Quarterback Travis Wilson gave Utah a creditable air game with over 2,000 yards on 62% with 13 scores and ten interceptions. The Utes top targets in the passing game were Britain Covey and Kenneth Scott with a little less then 1,000 yards. Devontae Booker was the workhorse on the ground with 1,261 yards on 268 carries and eleven TD’s.
The Cougars are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and the under is 4-1 in Cougars last 5 neutral site games while the Cougars are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. The over is 4-0 in Utes last 4 games following a straight up win and the Utes are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall while going 8-2 ATS in their last 10 bowl games. The underdog is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings and the Cougars are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings while the road team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings. Utah has injuries so BYU seems like the obvious choice but I’m looking for a low scoring battle…
