The Hampton Pirates and the Liberty Flames will meet up for college football activity on Saturday.
Hampton comes into this matchup at 2-1 so far. The Pirates fell to Virginia Union in Week 2 but otherwise took out Elizabeth City State 65-7 and Howard 41-20.
In the Howard win, Hampton QB Deondre Francois logged 217 yards and four touchdowns, and Shai McKenzie had 47 yards rushing. Jadakis Bonds caught three balls for 75 yards and two scores as well.
Over on the Liberty side, they’re 1-2 this year, opening up with a 24-0 loss to Syracuse and a 35-14 loss to Louisiana. The Flames got a win versus Buffalo 35-17 their last time up, however.
In the victory, Liberty QB Stephen Calvert posted 325 yards and four scores, and Joshua Mack led the rush on 59 yards. Antonio Gandy-Golden went off for 174 receiving yards, two touchdowns and eight catches.
The Pirates are 0-4 ATS in their last four games in September and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. Hampton is 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall as well.
Meanwhile, the Flames are 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 0-4 ATS in their last four after giving up less than 20 points. The over is 4-0 in Liberty’s last four games after a straight-up win.
Outside of a pretty weird and ugly Virginia Union game, Hampton has looked impressive this season, especially on offense. When their passing game is working, the Pirates are a dangerous squad.
I see this one as a reasonably high-scoring game if Liberty’s offense clicks. Still, I like Hampton on the cover here.
