The Line: Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks +9.5 -- Over/Under:
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will meet the Georgia Southern Eagles at Malone Stadium on Saturday in college football activity.
The Warhawks come into this game with a 4-4 record overall. UL Monroe has fallen to Texas A&M, Troy, Georgia State and Mississippi this year, while taking out SE LA, Southern Miss, Coastal Carolina and Texas State.
In the Texas State game, UL Monroe QB Caleb Evans put up 124 yards and a TD through the air, also leading the team in rushing with 85 yards on 14 carries. Marcus Green led the Warhawks receivers with three grabs for 36 yards.
Over on the Georgia Southern side, they’re sitting at 7-1 on the year. The Eagles’ lone loss this season came to Clemson, but otherwise they’ve beaten SC State, UMass, Arkansas State, South Alabama, Texas State, New Mexico State and App State.
In the Appalachian State game, GASO QB Shai Wertz managed 57 yards and a TD through the air and 129 yards and a TD on the ground. Darion Anderson caught the only completion for the Georgia Southern 57-yard TD.
The Eagles are 6-0 ATS in their last six on grass and 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall. GASO is also 5-1 ATS in their las six following an ATS win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven conference games.
Meanwhile, UL-Monroe is 6-1 ATS in their last seven in November and 9-23-1 ATS in their last 33 home games. The Warhawks are 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall.
UL-Monroe gets a bit of a lift coming in here off their two straight wins, but in all honesty neither Coastal Carolina nor Texas State is that great of a football team right now. That’s really what’s keeping the Warhawks’ record afloat right now; playing bad teams.
As for GASO, they’re one of those Georgia Tech-style run-heavy option teams, and if you’re not equipped to deal with that they’ll (literally) run you over. I don’t see the Warhawks being able to do much against that onslaught so I’m going Georgia Southern here.
