Southeastern Louisiana Lions (0-0) at Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (0-0)
|Date & Time||Thursday August 30, 2018, 8:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks -14 -- Over/Under: 73
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks open their college football slate with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions.
The Southeastern Louisiana Lions finished 6-3 in the Southland and 6-5 overall as they outscored the opposition 35-26. Southeastern Louisiana averaged 428 yards per game and were effective on the ground where the offense averaged 283 yards. Southeastern Louisiana has Fresno State transfer Chason Virgil at quarterback so the run first offense needs a receiving corps.
The Lions were number five in rushing a season ago and return the majority of that production with Marcus Cooper and Darren Johnson topping the list. The SELO offensive line won’t have a problem opening holes in the ground game but this group will be asked to protect Virgil as the offense goes to the pass for more balance.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks were 4-8 in 2017 with most of their problems coming on the defensive side of the football with the team getting outscored 41-34. Pass heavy Louisiana-Monroe gets back dual threat quarterback Caleb Evans. Marcus Green and RJ Turner give the Warhawks a solid receiving threat once again but the running game needs a boost.
Derrick Gore averaged just over 3.5 yards per carry but was a great receiver out of the backfield with 16 receptions. ULM has depth at running back and experience on the offensive line so a competent ground game is all that is needed to make this offense unstoppable. The Warhawks are more experienced on defense but will that add up to much needed improvement?
Over is 4-0 in Southeastern Louisiana last 4 non-conference games and Southeastern Louisiana are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and over is 5-1 in Southeastern Louisiana last 6 road games. Over is 4-0 in UL Monroe last 4 home games and under is 4-1 in UL Monroe last 5 games in August and over is 22-8 in UL Monroe last 30 games overall.
Southeastern Louisiana poses a threat offensively so UL Monroe is gong to have to put points on the board and I think they do…
