The Line: Louisville Cardinals -20 -- Over/Under:
Down at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville on Saturday, October 22, we’ve got a great Week 8 ACC college football matchup as the North Carolina State Wolfpack visit the Louisville Cardinals.
North Carolina State comes into this game with a decent 4-2 record, but dropped their most recent game 24-17 to Clemson. In that one, an end-zone interception in overtime dashed the Wolfpack’s hopes of an upset. NC State QB Ryan Finley finished 20-of-40 with 231 yards, no TDs and two interceptions, while Matthew Dayes led the team in rushing with 22 carries for 106 yards and a score. Jaylen Samuels was the high man in the receiving game for the Wolfpack with eight catches for 100 yards.
So far this year, Finley has put up 1272 yards on 109-of-168 passing for nine touchdowns, and Dayes has 120 carries for 669 yards and four scores. Stephen Louis is out front for North Carolina State in receiving with 359 yards on 16 receptions with one TD.
Over on the Louisville side, they’re sporting a 5-1 record and just finished off Duke in their last appearance 24-14. Over the course of that game, Cardinals QB Lamar Jackson totaled 181 yards and a TD on 13-of-26 passing while also leading the rushing game on 21 carries for 144 yards and a score. Jamari Staples led the Louisville aerial attack on three catches for 62 yards in all.
On the season for the Cardinals so far, Jackson is 114-of-196 for 1806 yards and 15 touchdowns, and also leads Louisville in rushing with 113 carries for 832 yards and a whopping 15 TDs. James Quick is the Cardinals’ top receiver with 28 grabs for 480 yards and four scores.
The Cardinals are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games, and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win. The over is 5-1 in Louisville’s last six games overall, and the under is 23-9-1 in Louisville’s last 33 games in October.
As for North Carolina State, the over is 6-2-1 in their last nine games overall, and the under is 12-5-1 in their last 18 games in October. North Carolina State is also 2-5 ATS versus a team with a winning record, and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in October.
North Carolina State plowed through the early part of their schedule and is now hitting a rough patch. Both of the Wolfpack’s last two games have been decided by seven points apiece, as opposed to the blowouts in their first four games. As for Louisville, they got a scare last week but still stayed focused enough to get the win. The Cardinals scored at least 59 points in their first four wins, so it was a little odd to see them put up a relatively tame 24 in Week 7. Still, Louisville is simply too overpowered on offense to have to worry too much overall, so I’ll take the Cardinals here.
