The Rice Owls and the LSU Tigers hook up for a week 12 college football matchup from Tiger Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Rice Owls will look to pull off a massive upset after dropping 10 in a row to sit at 1-10 after their 28-13 loss to Louisiana Tech in their last outing. Shawn Stankavage has thrown for 1,227 yards, 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 56.8% passing while Austin Walker and Emmanuel Esukpa have combined to rush for 1,004 yards and 7 touchdowns this season. Austin Trammell leads the Owls with 59 catches for 600 yards with 3 touchdowns while Aaron Cephus has 40 grabs for 565 yards and 5 touchdowns and the aforementioned Walter has 35 grabs for 415 yards this year. As a team, Rice is averaging 324.5 yards of total offense and 19 points per game this season.

The LSU Tigers will look to keep their momentum going after improving to 8-2 with a 24-17 win over Arkansas in their last outing. Joe Burrow has thrown for 1,923 yards, 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while the duo of Nick Brossette and Clyde Edwards-Helaire have combined to rush for 1,383 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. Justin Jefferson leads LSU’s receiving corps with 42 catches for 669 yards and 3 touchdowns this season. As a team, LSU is averaging 362.4 yards of total offense and 26.7 points per game this season.

Rice is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games overall. LSU is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against C-USA while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record.

I understand why this line is as heavy as it is, you have an SEC power in LSU, going up against a Rice squad that’s lost 10 straight. However, the Tigers aren’t in the same boat as Alabama, where Bama beats up on teams left and right and lights up the scoreboard. The Tigers were already a 40-point favorite once this season, and the Tigers didn’t cover that game, defeating Southeastern Louisiana State by a final score of 31-0. I think laying heavy numbers like this, no matter who it’s against, you’re asking for a backdoor cover to go against you, so I’ll take a shot with Rice and the truckload of points here.
