CFB | Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (6-5) at Marshall Thundering Herd (11-0)

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and Marshall Thundering Herd play Friday afternoon at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have won four of their last five games and are looking for their second road win. Western Kentucky lives on a passing game that’s led by Brandon Doughty, who is completing 67.4 percent of his passes for 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Doughty has 12 total touchdowns and zero picks in his last three games, and Western Kentucky has 35 passing plays of 25 or more yards. Western Kentucky has won nine of its last 13 games when Doughty throws at least two touchdowns. Jared Dangerfield and Taywan Taylor have combined for more than 1,200 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns while Willie McNeal has caught a touchdown in three straight games. Western Kentucky’s ground game is averaging 4.7 yards per carry, as Leon Allen leads the way with 1,253 yards and 11 scores. Defensively, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are allowing 36.8 points, 483.1 yards, and they’ve forced 19 sacks and 18 turnovers. Nick Holt leads WKU with 93 tackles and Ge'Monee Brown has eight tackles for loss.

The Marshall Thundering Herd are just one win away from running the table. Rakeem Cato is completing 58.4 percent of his passes for 28 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Cato has nine total touchdowns and two picks in his last three games and Marshall has 39 passing plays of 25 or more yards. Tommy Shuler and Angelo Jean-Louis have combined for close to 1,200 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns while Eric Frohnapfel has eight receptions in his last two games. Marshall’s ground game is averaging seven yards per carry, as Devon Johnson and Steward Butler have combined for more than 2,000 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Defensively, the Marshall Thundering Herd are allowing 16.5 points, 324.4 yards, and they’ve forced 31 sacks and 18 turnovers. Neville Hewitt leads Marshall with 91 tackles and Arnold Blackmon has 12 tackles for loss.

The Hilltoppers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Thundering Herd are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 home games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have an elite passing game that should be able to keep this game close. We're talking about a Western kentucky team that has produced 30-plus points in 10 of their 11 games this season. I'll gladly take three free touchdowns on top of that.
