The Line: Maryland Terrapins -19 -- Over/Under: 59.5
The Richmond Spiders and Maryland Terrapins meet Saturday afternoon at Byrd Stadium.
The Richmond Spiders are coming off a solid 9-5 season that included four road wins. Kyle Lauletta takes over at quarterback with the status of David Broadus still up in the air. Lauletta is a redshirt sophomore eager to prove himself. Reggie Diggs and Brian Brown combined for more than 2,000 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns last year while Jacobi Green has 23 receptions. Seth Fisher remains at running back for the Spiders after leading the way with 804 yards and 12 touchdowns. Defensively, Omar Howard returns after racking up 92 tackles, David Jones had two interceptions and Ayo Ogunniyi had nine pass breakups.
The Maryland Terrapins look to take that next step under coach Randy Edsall after combining for 14 wins the last two years. Caleb Rowe takes over at quarterback after completing 63 percent of his passes for five touchdowns and four interceptions last season. Amba Etta-Tawo and Brandon Ross combined for more than 400 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Kenneth Goins Jr. had seven receptions as a sophomore. Ross remains at running back after racking up 419 yards and four touchdowns last season. Defensively, Sean Davis returns to Maryland after picking up 115 tackles, Yannick Ngakoue had 13.5 tackles for loss and William Likely had six interceptions.
Maryland lost a ton of talent on the offensive side of the ball, as most of the receivers are still wet behind the ears. Meanwhile, Richmond can light it up as it has two 1,000-yard receivers returning. While the Terrapins have an improved defense, I expect the Spiders to put some points on the board.
I actually like Richmond to hang tough in this game and cover the spread.
