CFB | North Carolina Tar Heels (1-2) at Miami-FL Hurricanes (3-1)
Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

The North Carolina Tar Heels will meet the Miami Hurricanes in nationally-televised college football action on Thursday, September 27 at Hard Rock Stadium.

UNC comes into this game with a 1-2 record so far. The Tar Heels took a loss to California 24-17 in Week 1, then dropped to East Carolina 41-19. After a postponed matchup versus UCF, North Carolina finally tasted victory over Pitt 38-35 this past Saturday.

In the Panthers game, Tar Heels QB Nathan Elliott logged 313 yards, two touchdowns and 22-of-31 passing. Antonio Williams had a great day for NC with 114 yards and two scores, while Dazz Newsome posted six grabs for 110 yards.

Over on the Hurricanes’ side, they’re 3-1 this season. Miami fell to LSU 33-17 in the opener before destroying Savannah State 77-0, Toledo 49-24 and then FIU 31-17 just this past Saturday in their most recent appearance.

In the FIU outing, Miami QB N’Kosi Perry logged 224 yards with three scores and a pick, while Travis Homer led the rush with 114 yards and a TD. Mike Harley was the top ‘Canes receiver with 76 yards on seven catches.

The Tar Heels are 4-0 ATS in their last four conference games and 4-0 ATS versus a team with a winning record. North Carolina is 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven overall and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Thursday games.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are 10-4 in their last 14 in September and 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall. Miami is 1-6 ATS in their last seven conference games and 2-5 in their last seven following an ATS loss.

After a couple of fits and starts, North Carolina got their offense rolling this past week in a nice all-around effort versus a decent Pitt team. The Heels will need that momentum against a capable Hurricanes offense that has plowed through lesser competition in their past few games. All things considered, I think North Carolina has enough juice to close the gap a little here, so I’ll take UNC to sneak in and cover.

Pick:
North Carolina Tar Heels +19.5
