The Line: Miami Hurricanes -17 -- Over/Under: 70
The North Carolina Tar Heels travel to Miami to play the Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.
The North Carolina Tar Heels improved to 4-4 on the season after winning at Virginia 28-27 last weekend. The Tar Heels have won two games in a row after dropping four straight to East Carolina, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame. The Tar Heels have knocked off Georgia Tech and now the Cavaliers in back to back weeks. The Tar Heels were outgained 443 to 374 in total yards by the Cavaliers last weekend, but they were able to force two turnovers. North Carolina is allowing 41.3 points per game on the year, which ranks a lousy 125th in the country. QB Marquise Williams completed 15 of 28 passes for 259 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Williams also led the team in rushing with 49 yards and a score. WR Mack Hollins caught 2 balls for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns for North Carolina. On the year, the Tar Heels are scoring a solid 37.4 points per game, which ranks 20th in the country. This will mark the fifth road game of the year for the Tar Heels; North Carolina is 1-3 on the road this season.
The Miami Hurricanes improved to 5-3 on the year after beating Virginia Tech 30-6 last week. The Hurricanes have knocked off Duke, Cincinnati, and Virginia Tech in the past four weeks, with a loss to Georgia Tech mixed in. Against Virginia Tech, Miami gained 456 total yards, while holding the Hokies to only 262 total yards and forcing 3 turnovers. The Hurricanes defense is allowing only 22.1 points per game on average this year, which ranks 35th in the country. Last week, QB Brad Kaaya completed 7 of 16 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown. The best player on the field was RB Duke Johnson. Johnson rushed for 249 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. Johnson also caught a team-high 2 balls for 37 yards and a score. On the year, Miami is averaging 31.3 points per game, which ranks 56th in the nation. Miami will be hosting their fifth game of the year; the Hurricanes are a perfect 4-0 at home this season.
Miami has won three of the last four meetings with North Carolina, including a 27-23 win last year in Chapel Hill. These two teams usually play one another pretty close and neither team has won big in recent years. I don’t think that changes this year despite the fact that Miami is playing great football right now. The Hurricanes have Florida State coming up in two weeks and they might be looking ahead to their bye week and the preparation for the defending champs. Meanwhile, North Carolina is playing inspired football after bouncing back the past two weeks following a four game losing streak. I’m going to take the points with the Tar Heels.
