|Date & Time||Saturday September 1, 2018, 3:30 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Miami-OH RedHawks +2.5 -- Over/Under: 47
The Marshall Thundering Herd begin the 2018 college football season at the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks.
The Marshall Thundering Herd leaned on their defense in 2017 in building an 8-5 record while outscoring opponents 27-20. Marshall has the majority of their offense returning except at quarterback where Isaiah Green will take over for Chase Litton. Tyre Brady will be the top option in the Thundering Herd passing game after totaling over 900 receiving yards in 2017.
Keion Davis and Tyler King give the Thundering Herd ground game experience and production after combining for 1,632 yards a year ago with the added bonus of running behind an experience offensive line. The defensive side of the football will be a strength again for Marshall with nine players returning.
The Miami (Ohio) Redhawks were just 5-7 a year ago with five defeats coming by less then a score. Miami (Ohio) averaged 24 points and allowed 24 points and will need senior quarterback Gus Ragland to have a strong season to improve the scoring. The Redhawks do lose several receivers but All-MAC performer James Gardner gives Ragland a great go to target.
Miami (Ohio) is deep at running back with virtually everyone coming back while the offensive line is also deep with several players also coming back from injury plagued seasons in 2017. The Redhawks return eight players on the defense including leading tackler Brad Koenig although the secondary is an area of concern.
Marshall are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and Marshall are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September and over is 8-1 in Marshall last 9 non-conference games. Miami (Ohio) are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and Miami (Ohio) are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games and under is 5-1-1 in Miami (Ohio) last 7 home games. Home team is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings and Marshall are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
Right now I’ll take Marshall and buy the ½ for a field goal but I really want to see where this line goes. My thinking is that Marshall has the edge at the skill positions…
