CFB | Akron Zips (4-5) at Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (2-8)

The Akron Zips will travel to Yager Stadium to take on the Miami (OH) Redhawks this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The Akron Zips were able to outscore the Massachusetts Minutemen by a 10-0 margin in the 2nd half and defeat UMass 17-13 this past Saturday to improve to 4-5 (MAC East) on the season. Akron was about to outgain Massachusetts by a 329-261 margin and was able to overcome committing three turnovers in the contest. Leading the way for the Zips was RB Conor Hundley who had 92 yards on 23 carries in the victory. On the season, Akron is averaging 21.0 ppg on 344.7 yards per game (189.7 passing, 155.0 rushing). Offensively, Akron has been led by RB Connor Hundley who had 6 TD on the season while averaging 74.33 rushing yards per game. QB Thomas Woodson has 10 TD’s and 8 INT on the season while averaging 157.2 passing yards per game. Woodson also has done some damage with his legs as he has 3 rushing TD’s on the season while averaging 39.00 rushing yards per game. The Zips don’t have many weapons at the WR position and are led by Jerome Lane (2.4 rec/game, 56.9 yds/game, 5 TD) and Imani Davis (3.6 rec/game, 45.7 yds/game, 2 TD). Defensively, Akron is holding their opponents to an average of 23.2 ppg on 336.9 yards per game (240.2 passing, 96.7 rushing). Akron has a plus 1 turnover margin on the season and is led defensively by LB Jatavis Brown (77 tackles, 8.5 sacks) and DB DeAndre Scott (17 tackles, 5 INT).

The Miami (OH) Redhawks got out to a quick 21-3 halftime lead and was able to defeat the Eastern Michigan Eagles 28-13 this past Saturday to improve to 2-8 (1-5 MAC East) on the season. Miami (OH) was able to outgain Eastern Michigan by a 441-192 margin and was able to hold the Eagles to just 89 passing yards. Leading the way for the Redhawks in the victory was WR Jared Murphy who had 91 yards and 2 TD on 7 receptions. On the season, Miami (OH) is averaging 16.7 ppg on 337.5 yards per game (202.6 passing, 134.9 rushing). The Redhawks are led by RB Alonzo Smith who had 4 TD on the season while averaging 38.30 rushing yards per game. Freshman QB Billy Bahl has struggled a bit throwing for just 5 TD and 11 INT on the season while averaging just 115.9 passing yards per game, but has looked better as of late as he has thrown for 343 yards, 3 TD and just 1 INT over his past two games. WR Sam Martin (2.8 rec/game, 54.1 yds/game, 2 TD), WR Jared Murphy (2.5 rec/game, 39.8 yds/game, 2 TD) and TE Ryan Smith (1.9 rec/game, 22.8 yds/game, 4 TD) have been the main targets for Billy Bahl this season. Defensively, Miami (OH) is allowing their opponents to average 33.4 ppg on 419.1 yards per game (242.6 passing, 176.5 rushing). The Redhawks have had trouble protecting the football as they’ve committed 26 turnovers this season and have a turnover margin of minus 12. Leading the Miami (OH) defense has been DL JT Jones (41 tacks, 6.5 sacks) and DB Brison Burris (69 tackles, 3 INT, 1 TD).

The Zips are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game however just 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games overall. The Redhawks are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 conference games.

Both Akron and Miami (OH) have had trouble putting points up on the board this season and I expect that points might once again be difficult to come by in this matchup. Akron’s offensive had a great matchup against an UMass defense that was giving up more than 37 ppg going into the contest but still was only able to put 17 against the Minutemen. Miami (OH) has looked better as of late and has been good ATS at home this season. Akron is the better team this is too many points to lay down on the road with a weak offense. I’m taking Miami (OH) and the points in this one.

Miami (OH) Redhawks +7
