The struggling Brigham Young Cougars look to right the ship on the road at the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders.
The Brigham Young Cougars need to find a way to control the offense of Middle Tennessee State Saturday and get their season of promise back on track. The Cougars are mired in a four game slide after they were absolutely pounded on the blue turf of Boise State 55-30 in a game that was never competitive. The Broncos jumped to a 41-16 lead after 30 minutes doing what they wanted in rolling up 637 yards. The Cougars couldn't compete with their own 322 yards with the defense actually recording a safety and a 20 yard pick six from Fred Warner. Jamaal Williams was the only source of running the ball with 70 yards on 16 touches with a 17 yard scoring jaunt while Christian Stewart threw for 259 yards with an 81 yard touchdown to Colby Pearson although BYU probably needed 200 more yards.
The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders know their opportunity at the postseason will be gratly enhanced if they can knock off Brigham Young on their home field in week ten. The Blue Raiders have been at their best lately with wins in three of four following a 34-22 decision over a dangerous Alabama-Birmingham club. MTSU erased a one point deficit with a 13-0 4th quarter game ending run. The Blazers owned a slight 405-370edge in yardage but they also lost the turnover battle 3-1 which was crucial. At the final gun the rushing attack oovercame a struggling passing game Austin Grammer connecting on 6-19 throws for 141 yards with 30 yard and 65 yard touchdowns to Marcus Henry and Chris Perkins respectively. Reggie Whatley paced the rushing game with 100 yards including a 67 yard scoring jaunt with Jeremiah Bryson adding 64 yards and a pair of TD's. Shane Tucker ran for 56 yards to give MTSU three options on the ground.
The Cougars are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. CUSA with the over going 5-0 in Cougars last 5 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points and 5-0 in Cougars last 5 games following a ATS loss. For Middle Tennessee the Blue Raiders are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games while the Blue Raiders are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a bye week. I sometimes struggle Middle Tennessee State but I believe Brigham Young is still a decent team and should get a Bowl invite. Having said that the Cougars looked completely inept and embarassed themselves at Boise State and I say show some pride here...
