The Line: Navy Midshipmen -3 -- Over/Under: 54
The Pittsburgh Panthers clash with the Navy Midshipmen in the Military Bowl on Monday.
If you follow the Pittsburgh Panthers then you know they were an extremely consistent squad where they would grind out wins. You also know that with a bit more offense their record could easily be better. The Panthers outscored opponents 28-25 behind an offense that averaged 381 yards and was #46 on the ground at 186 yards. The defense was solid with 345 yards given up but only 127 yards were allowed on the ground. Quarterback Nathan Peterman threw for 2,150 yards with 19 TD’s and five INT’s with top target Tyler Boyd snagging 85 balls for 873 yards and six scores. Qadree Ollison paced Pittsburgh on the ground (204-1048) with a five yard average and ten TD’s.
The Navy Midshipmen seem to always field a good team but in my view this season is one of their best that I have seen. The Midshipmen played well on both sides of as they scored 36 points and gave up 21. The Middies averaged 411 yards behind the third ranked rushing attack that averaged nearly 320 yards. Navy played above average defense with 21 points allowed on 367 yards with only 138 yards coming on the ground. Quarterback Keenan Reynolds connected on 53% of his throws for 1,078 with seven scores and a pick with Jamir Tillman (27-570) and DeBrandon Sanders (7-220) the only receivers of note. Reynolds was most dangerous with his legs (241-1229) with Chris Swain (184-909) giving the rushing attack a great one, two punch.
The Panthers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games in December and are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game while the over is 4-1 in Panthers last 5 non-conference games. The over is 4-0 in Midshipmen last 4 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and is 4-0 in Midshipmen last 4 games following a straight up win while the Midshipmen are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf. I think defense is the name of the game here…
