The Line: Mississippi State Bulldogs +4 -- Over/Under: 49
The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the LSU Tigers face off on Saturday in a SEC college football battle.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs got off to a slow start in the first half of their opening game against Southern Miss but they turned it on in the second half to win going away. MSU QB Dak Prescott completed 57.9 percent of his passes for 237 yards and a touchdown and he ran eight times for 72 yards and a touchdown. The Mississippi State rushing attach was led by Ashton Shumpert and Brandon Holloway who combined for 89 yards and Fred Ross led the Bulldogs in receiving with five catches for 75 yards and De’Runnya Wilson had two catches for 55 yards. The Mississippi State defense looked vulnerable to the pass allowing 331 yards through the air and 413 yards overall. Richie Brown led MSU’s defense with 11 tackles and an interception, A.J. Jefferson had seven tackles including two sacks, and Tolando Crawford had seven tackles. MSU will need to play better in this one of they hope to walk away with a win.
The LSU Tigers opening game against McNeese State was cancelled do to weather so this will be their first action of the season. LSU has struggled at QB for several seasons but it appears that Brandon Harris will be the starter but I am sure we will still see Anthony Jennings plenty this season. LSU has been loaded in the backfield for year’s nut Leonard Fournette is a Heisman candidate and for my money the best running back in the nation while Malachi Dupre and Travin Dural can burn it up at WR. On defense for LSU Tre’Davious White is the leader and the heir apparent to carry on the DB tradition for the Tigers. Up front for LSU Christian LaCouture and Davon Godchaux anchor the DL while MLB Kendell Beckwith is a solid tackler. LSU has plenty of stars on both sides of the ball but once again It will come down to if their QB play is good enough.
Mississippi State is 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 SEC games, 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 home games, and 1-4 against the spread following a win. LSU is 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five September games and 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 games at Mississippi State. The favorite has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
With the total set at 49.5 I like the under in this one as the better units face off against one another as do the lesser on the other so expect a lot of hard hitting and tough yards. My stronger play is on the winning team against the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
