The Line: Missouri Tigers -20 -- Over/Under:
The Missouri Tigers and the Vanderbilt Commodores face off on Saturday in SEC college football action.
The Missouri Tigers have had their share of highs and lows this season and they look to become bowl eligible with their sixth win of the season in this one. Missouri is coming off of a stomping of Florida following a one sided loss to Georgia. The Missouri offense is averaging 30.7 points per game and 323.7 yards per game as QB Maty Mauk has completed 52.5 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Russell Hansbrough is averaging 5.5 yards per carry with six touchdowns as Mizzou’s leading rusher and Bud Sasser has 35 catches and is the Tigers leading receiver. The Missouri defense is allowing 21.4 points and 366.7 yards per game with eight interceptions, 26 sacks, and seven fumble recoveries. Michael Scherer has 65 tackles, Kentrell Brothers has 55 tackles, and Shane Ray has 10 sacks. Both of Missouri’s losses this season have come at home.
The good news for the Vanderbilt Commodores is they are coming off of a win in their last game the nt so great news is that it was against FCS Charleston Southern. The Vandy offense is averaging just 17.6 points per game and 270.4 yards. and they have used a bunch of QB’s most recently Johnny McCrary wo has just one touchdown and three interceptions. Ralph Webb leads Vanderbilt in rushing with 560 yards and two touchdowns and C.J. Duncan and Steven Scheu are the leading receivers. The Vandy defense allows 34 points per game and 415.9 yards with three interceptions, seven fumble recoveries, and 10 sacks. Nigel Bowden has 54 tackles, Torren McGaster has 37 tackles, and Caleb Azubike has four sacks. Vanderbilt appears to have taken a step backwards.
Missouri is 12-4 against the spread in their last 16 SEC games, 18-7-1 against the spread in their last 26 games, and 10-4-1 against the spread following a win. Vanderbilt is 5-0 against the spread in their last five road games, 12-3 against the spread following a win, and 6-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread.
Missouri seems to play down to the level of their competition and home is where both of their losses happened this season but I look for them to be inspired here and get the cover.
