New Mexico Lobos (1-0) at Arizona State Sun Devils (1-1)
|Date & Time||Friday September 18, 2015, 10:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Arizona State Sun Devils -27 -- Over/Under: 65.5
The New Mexico Lobos pay a visit to Sun Devil Stadium to square off with the Arizona State Sun Devils.
The New Mexico Lobos were dominant in defeating Mississippi Valley State in their season opener but the shoe was on the other foot in a 40-21 loss to visiting Tulsa in week two. The Lobos led 23-21 in the third but the offense didn’t score again and the Golden Hurricane kept scoring as they won the yardage battle 600-390. The run is the bread and butter of the UNM attack and proved to be once again with Teriyon Gipson leading the way with 71 yards on nine carries with a pair of trips to the end zone while Jhurell Pressley, Dameon Gamblin and Lamar Jordan combining for 109 yards on 24 carries. Jordan gave New Mexico a viable passing game with 102 yards on 7-13 with a TD throw to Gamblin who caught eight balls for 131 yards.
Arizona State dropped their opener to Texas A&M but evened their record at 1-1 with a 35-21 victory versus visiting Cal Poly. The run heavy Mustangs averaged just under four yards which was their downfall because they don’t throw. On the flip side the Sun Devils were balances in totaling 531 yards although they were sloppy with three fumbles (one lost) with an interception. ASU received 283 passing yards and three touchdowns from Mike Bercovici with receiver of choice Devin Lucien grabbing seven balls for 79 yards. Arizona State had zero problems on the ground with Demario Richard running for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns with DJ Foster adding 76 yards on 12 touches while Tim White ripped off a 59 yard run.
The over is 4-0 in Lobos last 4 vs. Pac-12 while the Lobos are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game. The over is 5-0 in Sun Devils last 5 Friday games and the Sun Devils are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in September. I have this game right around 21 points so I don’t know if there is value in either team to be honest. I guess I would do something on Arizona State or perhaps their team total…
