CFB | Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7-2) at North Carolina State Wolfpack (5-4)

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets travel to North Carolina State to play the Wolfpack on Saturday.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets improved to 7-2 on the season after beating Virginia 35-10 last weekend. The Yellow Jackets have won two straight since dropping their only two games to Duke and North Carolina. Georgia Tech has beaten the likes of Wofford, Tulane, Georgia Southern, Virginia Tech, Miami, and Pittsburgh this season. Against Virginia, Georgia Tech held the Cavaliers to 284 total yards and forced two turnovers in the win. On the year, the Yellow Jackets defense is allowing 26.2 points per game on average, which ranks 64th in the country. The Yellow Jackets gained 409 total yards on offense against Virginia and turned the ball over once. QB Justin Thomas completed 7 of 13 passes for 141 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. WR DeAndre Smelter caught 4 balls for 107 yards and a score. RB Synjyn Days carried the ball 24 times for an impressive 147 yards and one touchdown. The Georgia Tech offense is averaging 36.9 points per game, which ranks 18th in the country. The Yellow Jackets have the 4th best rush offense in the country, averaging over 319 rushing yards per contest. This will be the Yellow Jackets fifth road game of the season; Georgia Tech is 3-1 away from home in 2014.

The North Carolina State Wolfpack improved to 5-4 on the year after beating Syracuse on the road 24-17 last weekend. The Wolfpack snapped a four game losing streak, falling to Florida State, Clemson, Boston College, and Louisville. The win over Syracuse was the best win the Wolfpack have had all season, as they beat mediocre teams early on. Against Syracuse, the Wolfpack allowed 345 total yards and forced three turnovers. On the season, NC State is allowing 27.6 points per game on average, which ranks 76th in the country. The offense gained only 307 total yards and committed 9 penalties for 80 yards. QB Jacoby Brissett completed 20 of 32 passes for 186 yards and 1 touchdown. WR Bra’Lon Cherry caught 4 balls for 64 yards. RB Jaylen Samuels carried the ball twice for 46 yards, while RB Matt Dayes rushed 10 times for 31 yards. The Wolfpack are only averaging 28.7 points per game on the season, which ranks 73rd in the country. NC State will now head home to play back to back home games before finishing the season out on the road. The Wolfpack are 3-2 at home this season.

These two teams have split the last four meetings, with Georgia Tech winning last year 45-35 at North Carolina State. Georgia Tech is the hotter and more talented team in my opinion. The Yellow Jackets have much more to play for at this point in the season, as they try to earn a spot in the ACC championship game. I believe the Wolfpack will have trouble scoring in this one. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets will do what the do best, run the ball early and often. Georgia Tech wins by at least a touchdown.
