CFB | Florida Atlantic Owls (3-6) at North Texas Mean Green (2-6)

The Florida Atlantic Owls head to Apogee Stadium to take the field with the North Texas Mean Green.

The Florida Atlantic Owls look for a strong finish to the regular season beginning with North Texas on Saturday. The Owls saw their chance at the postseason go by the wayside with a 31-28 loss to Alabama-Birmingham that dropped the team to 3-6 on the year. A 21 point 4th quarter went for naught when the Blazers connected on a 24 yard field goal with just two seconds left in regulation. The normally strong FAU defense allowed 423 yards with UAB holding on to the ball for 35+ minutes. Florida Atlantic countered with 322 yards and hurt themselves with a pair of turnovers. Jaquez Johnson ran for 44 yards and threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns with an interception while Tony Moore added 45 yards and another score.

The North Texas Mean Green are out of postseason consideration but would like to end the season with a few wins beginning with visiting Florida Atlantic on Saturday. 2014 has not been a good one as the Mean Green have lost four in a row and fell to 2-6 on the year following a 41-21 defeat at Rice in week ten. UNT has generally struggled on both sides of the ball and did once again versus the Owls as they were outgained 421-216 and turned the ball over twice. The Mean Green had no ground game to lean on which meant a complete reliance on Andrew McNulty and the passing attack which wasn't nearly effective as was needed. McNulty connected on 15-33 for 186 yards with a 51 yard touchdown to Carlos Harris and a 60 yard pick six that gave the Owls a 24-21 lead that they never gave up.

The over is 4-0 in Owls last 4 games following a S.U. loss while the Owls are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. For North Texas the Mean Green are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference games and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the Mean Green are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf. Head to head the under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings while the Owls are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in North Texas and are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings. I have liked backing Florida Atlantic as an underdog but as a favorite on the road is not a good spot for me. I don't like either team in all honesty but I believe FAU is the better squad...

Florida Atlantic Owls -3

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
