The Line: North Texas Mean Green -3 -- Over/Under:
The North Texas Mean Green do battle with the Florida International Golden Panthers Saturday.
The Florida International Golden Panthers have generally been a team that depends on tgeir defense because points are tough to come by. That wasn't the case in week 12 in a 38-28 victory over Middle Tennessee State. The offensive minded Blue Raiders outgained FIU 428-375 but turned the ball over five times and home team took advantage of the field position and had a 79 yard pick six by Davison Colimon. Anthone Samuel gave the Golden Panthers a quality ground game with 19 carries for 120 yards and a two yard scoring run. Alex McGough was quietly efficient on a 17-24 effort for 231 yards for three touchdowns wih Jonnu Smith grabbing eight balls for 140 yards and all three scores.
I thought the North Texas Mean Green were going to challenge for the postseason but after watching a few games it seems the Mean Green are going through a bit of a rebuilding process. UNT has struggled to put points on the scoreboard and their defense hasn't been as strong as in years past and that's a bad combination. The scoring and defense struggled once again in a 35-17 loss to Texas El Paso as the Miners went up 28-0 at the half and never looked back. UTEP had no trouble moving the chains with 438 yards but North Texas did with just 207 yards. Andrew McNulty was the offense with 107 yards through the aior with a touchdown and interception while using his legs to total 67 yards on 12 carries.
The over is 4-0 in Golden Panthers last 4 conference games and is 4-0 in Golden Panthers last 4 games overall while the over is 5-0 in Golden Panthers last 5 games on fieldturf. For North Texas the Mean Green are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game and are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a losing road record while the Mean Green are 7-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. Head to head the Golden Panthers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings and the favorite is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings. I think both teams are rebuilding but I believe FIU is further ahead in the process...
