First in the MAC West is up for grabs when the Toledo Rockets pay a visit to the Northern Illinois Huskies.
The Toledo Rockets put their perfect conference record on the line when they go on the road to face their main challenger in Northern Illinois. The Rockets have won five of six and consecutive contests after knocking off a stubborn Kent State 30-20 in week eleven. The Rockets led 16-0 at the half on the way to 422 yards and were never challenged but were kicking too many field goals early on. The defense held the Golden Flashes to 334 yards and forced three turnovers and allowed less then 23 minutes of possession. Logan Woodside was efficient through the air going 16-26 for 202 yards and three touchdowns while Kareem Hunt ran for 141 yards with Terry Swanson added annother 75 yards.
The Northern Illinois Huskies were deemed to be a prime upset candidate when they went on the road to Ball State in week eleven. The Huskies proved to be up to the task as they ground out a 35-21 victory over the Cardinals with a 21-7 second half run breaking a 14-14 tie. NIU was dominant defensively with 307 yards allowed with a pair of fumble recoveries and a trio of interceptions while their own offense mustered 385 yards and almost 36 minutes of possession. QB Drew Hare connected on 16-27 for 126 yards with Cameron Stingily leading the rushing attack with 148 yards on 26 carries including three short touchdown runs. Northern Illinois didn't pile up the yards but were aided by Ball State mistakes.
