CFB | Eastern Michigan Eagles (1-6) at Northern Illinois Huskies (4-3)

The Eastern Michigan Eagles will travel to Huskie Stadium to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles was able to get up early against the 19th ranked Toledo Rockets however allowed Toledo to score 56 unanswered points after the first quarter and was defeated 63-20, dropping the Eagles to 1-6 (0-3 MAC West) this season. The Eagles were outgained by the Rockets by a 611-458 margin and allowed the Rockets to average 8.2 yards per carry on the ground in the loss. Leading the way for Eastern Michigan was RB Darius Jackson who had 113 yards and 2 TD on 18 carries. On the season, Eastern Michigan is averaging 28.3 ppg on 409.7 yards per game (226.1 passing, 183.6 rushing). One of the few bright spots for the Eagles this season has been the rushing attack led by Darius Jackson (120 carries, 698 yards, 10 TD) and Shaq Vann (60 carries, 424 yards, 4 TD).Eastern Michigan got starting QB Reginald Bell (63.6 comp %, 238 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT) back in their game against Toledo after missing the previous 5 games to do a jaw injury.  Eddie Daugherty (25 receptions, 382 yards, 3 TD) and Dustin Creel (20 receptions, 210 yards, 3 TD) have led the Eagles at the WR position. Defensively, Eastern Michigan has struggled as they are allowing opponents to average 43.9 ppg on 511.9 yards per game (169.0 passing, 342.9 rushing). Opponents have really hurt Eastern Michigan on the ground as opposing rushers are averaging 6.78 yards per carry against the Eagles this season. The Eagles currently have a minus 8 turnover margin and have been led on the defensive end by LB Great Ibe (66 Tackles, .5 Sacks).

The Northern Illinois Huskies got out to a quick 21-0 lead and defeated the Miami (OH) Redhawks 45-12 this past Saturday to improve to 4-3 (2-1 MAC West) on the season. The Huskies were able to outgain the Redhawks by a 514-309 margin and were able to average 7.5 yards per rush in the victory. Leading the way for Northern Illinois was RB Joel Bouagnon who had 3 TD and 134 yards on 14 carries in the victory. On the season, Northern Illinois is averaging 35.0 ppg on 428.1 yards per game (225.9 passing, 202.3 rushing). Offensively, the Huskies have been led by RB Joel Bouagnon who has 13 TD’s and 725 yards on 144 carries this season. QB Drew Hare has been solid has he has completed 64.6% of his passes for 1550 yards, 9 TD, 3 INT. Kenny Golladay has been the main target at WR for Drew Hare this season as Golladay currently has 40 receptions for 602 yards (86.0 yards/game) and 3 TD. Northern Illinois is holding their opponents to an average of 25.0 ppg on 366.7 yards (224.1 passing, 142.6 rushing). The Huskies currently have a plus 1 turnover margin and have been led defensively by DB Shawun Lurry who had 23 tackles and a college football best, 7 interceptions.

The Eagles are 18-37 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Huskies are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Eastern Michigan has been one of the worst in college football this season in defending the run and as Northern Illinois has one of the better RB’s in the conference in Joel Bouagnon, I see the Huskies RB’s have a big day against the Eagles. Eastern Michigan has a decent running attack of their own, but as the Northern Illinois was able to somewhat contain one of the best RB’s in the country in Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott earlier this season, I’m confident they’ll find a way to contain Darius Jackson and force the Eagles to try to beat them through the air. I think Northern Illinois gets up big early in this one and does enough in the 2nd half to cover this large spread. Take Northern Illinois to cover.
